Bedford Retrofit
PROJECT OVERVIEW
121 Design Build completed a soft story retrofit at 153 S Bedford Drive in Beverly Hills, CA — a 2,500 sq ft residential building with 2 units, 4 bedrooms, and 3.5 bathrooms. Soft story retrofits strengthen the vulnerable open ground-floor framing common in older multifamily structures, bringing the building into compliance with current seismic safety standards. This Beverly Hills project involved engineering and constructing a reinforced support system beneath the existing structure, minimizing disruption to residents while delivering code-required life-safety upgrades that protect both occupants and long-term property value.
Key features
- Seismic Reinforcement — full soft story retrofit to current Beverly Hills code requirements
- 2-Unit Residential — upgrades completed across both occupied units
- 2,500 Sq Ft — entire main building addressed in a single mobilization
- 4 Bed / 3.5 Bath — interior finishes and access preserved throughout construction
- Minimal Disruption — phased approach kept resident impact to a minimum
- Code Compliance — project meets all City of Beverly Hills mandatory retrofit ordinance standards
